About Deaconess
Deaconess Medical Center is a fully accredited, 388-bed hospital located in the heart of downtown Spokane, Washington.
We offer a wide variety of healthcare services designed to meet the diverse needs of our communities.
As a not-for-profit health system, our goal is not corporate profits, but rather to preserve the health of the people we serve.
Our hospital and our city are a regional healthcare hub, serving a four-state area including eastern Washington, northern Idaho, western Montana and northern Oregon.
Deaconess Medical Center is a Level II trauma center and also a leader in the treatment of heart and vascular diseases, cancer, pediatrics and services for mothers and their newborn babies.
An active staff of over 650 physicians and more than 175 consulting doctors and allied health professionals provide medical care at the hospital. Ninety-five percent of the physicians are board-certified or board eligible in their particular areas of expertise. These physicians come from some of the best medical schools and teaching hospitals in the country. They have chosen to practice in the Pacific Northwest region because of the quality of life the area offers and rural beauty.
One-third of Deaconess Medical Center’s referring physicians practice primary care medicine, serving in specialties such as family practice, pediatrics and internal medicine. The rest are specialists ranging from cardiologists to neurosurgeons. Almost every medical specialty is represented among the Deaconess doctors.
With over 1,600 employees, Deaconess Medical Center is one of the largest employers in Spokane.
More than 250 active hospital volunteers also provide services to the organization through the Deaconess Medical Center Auxiliary.
Accreditation
Deaconess Medical Center is accredited by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO), the nationwide authority that surveys hospitals and, based on certain health and safety requirements, decides whether a hospital receives, keeps or loses accreditation. In addition, our Centers of Excellence as well as several departments are recognized by related accrediting organizations.
