Health care has changed in our community and in the nation in the last decade. Physicians who are in practice as independent providers are feeling threatened by increasing complexity, and larger hospital health systems. Health care costs keep climbing and doctors are faced with managing a business as well as practicing medicine. Physicians who have a desire to spend more time in the exam room with their patients are looking for solutions to their accounting, insurance, technology and other business matters.

In 1999, Medical Services was established by three reputable medical practices and 4 business principals to confront the new challenges in healthcare together. The three practices were Fayetteville Diagnostic Clinic, FirstCare Family Doctors, and Northwest Arkansas Pediatric Clinic. The four principals were two CPA's who specialized in healthcare, Larry Shackelford and Jason Wilson; a registered nurse, Paula Maxwell; and a healthcare management professional, John Jordin. The unique combination of skills and leadership ability as well as the passion of the physicians to remain independent, has established a successful business that provides useful services.

Today, Medical Services is part of a larger entity, Medical Associates of Northwest Arkansas (MANA), an independent network that includes over 65 providers and 9 clinics. Medical Services is the administrative team for MANA and also provides small business services.
